The third season of Amazon’s Fallout series is set to begin filming a bit earlier than expected, with production kicking off in Santa Clarita on May 1, 2026.
Previously, Jonathan Nolan, who serves as executive producer on the series, said that the crew were looking to begin filming in the summer, but we’ve now got a date locked down. Season 3 is set to be directed by Frederick E.O. Toye, who will bring “continuity and seasoned genre expertise” to the series, according to a production post on Film and Television Industry Alliance.
Toye’s contributions behind the camera have been notable across seasons one and two, providing a consistent visual and narrative rhythm that anchors the show’s sprawling world. The early May shoot date gives department heads and crew ample time to position themselves for hiring. Set builders and art departments should prepare to expand practical landscapes and terrain builds that reflect the saga’s continuation through the Classic Wasteland and into new territory.
According to the production post, the California setting is the “logical return point” for Amazon’s post-apocalyptic drama’s third season, as the crew have already constructed a number of set pieces after the second season moved from New York to its new location,
The first series of Fallout premiered in April 2024, and was renewed for a second season that same month. Season Two of Fallout debuted on December 16, 2025, with the third season having been picked up months earlier in May 2025. Based on Bethesda’s video game franchise of the same name, Fallout is set two centuries after the Great War of 2077, where a nuclear holocaust results in the collapse of society. The series features Ella Purnell, Aaron Moten, Walton Goggins, and France Turner.
