Among the Sleep is a horror game starring a two-year-child that could come to PlayStation

PlayStation fans should take note of a Kickstarter project that could bring innovative horror to consoles.

Among the Sleep is being developed by Norway’s Krillbite Studio, a group of college graduates that began work on the game as a University thesis project. The gameplay concept is familiar–first-person survival in environments rife with atmosphere and horror–but Krillbite puts a unique spin on things. Among the Sleep’s protagonist is a two-year-old child who "must find his way through dark and mysterious environments while searching for safety and comfort, which is ultimately to be reunited with his family."

The game’s environments are inspired by real-life dreams and the imagination of the toddler, and Krillbite’s narrative aim is "to tell a compelling story both through an interesting storyline and through metaphor, relating to what actually evokes this fear and confusion in the child."

"We aim to include the surrealistic theme of dreams and children’s imagination, both as a setting and an active part of the game."

Among the Sleep is aimed for release in "Q4 this year" on PC, Mac, and Linux, but PlayStation gamers have reason to take note: Krillbite is "in dialogues about a possible console release as well."

If you’re itching to play Among the Sleep, and want to up the chances of a console release, consider donating through Kickstarter to Krillbite’s effort. A myriad of perks await, including copies of the game, its soundtrack, artwork, and beta access.

Krillbite has released a free game called The Plan that you can play on PC right now.
