Analyst Predicts Higher Game Prices Could Be The Norm Following Switch 2 Reveal

Niko Partners has suggested that higher priced games could become standard in the games industry, after the reveal of the Nintendo Switch 2 pricing earlier this week, where flagship launch title Mario Kart World carries a ‘suggested’ retail price of $79.99.

While there has been some sticker shock regarding the price of games increasing from $60 to $70 or $80, these price-points are set to become industry standard over the next two years, especially so for Nintendo first-party games. One reason for the higher price is the increased cost of the new and faster Game Cards themselves, with higher capacities being more expensive to manufacture than a PS5 Blu-ray disc.

There’s been plenty of talk about the cost of video games rising as of late, with a couple of analysts already predicting that Gran Theft Auto VI will retail for $100.

Regarding Nintendo Switch 2, physical games are going to cost more than their digital counterparts, which has caused major backlash among players. Furthermore, it’s been revealed that some physical purchases won’t feature a cart in the box, but wil rather contain a download code.
