A Lazard Capital Markets analyst says given Sony’s recent financial statements, we are likely to see a price cut for the PlayStation 3 in the near future. The "significant price cut," in the range of $100, could come sometime between E3 and the end of the summer, says analyst Colin Sebastian.
Sebastian says that as Sony is able to reduce PS3 costs, and as it projects a 30 percent increase in sales for fiscal year 2010, this summer is likely the best time for a price cut. The next 12 months are crucial for Sony to retain market share, especially with Nintendo losing ground, and Microsoft likely introducing a "gesture-based user interface," he says.
The standard 80GB PS3 retails for $399 and is currently the most expensive console. It is still one of the most affordable Blu-ray players, however.
