Game Changer Research analyst Billy Pidgeon has suggested that the videogames industry would receive a much-needed boost if Sony were to slash the price of its PlayStation 3 console.
“The thing that would really boost the industry in this traditionally slow period would be a Sony price cut. That would really help right now,” said Pidgeon.
However, the analyst noted that even if a price cut didn’t transpire, the industry would likely pick up the pace towards the latter half of the year: “If it doesn’t happen, I don’t think the industry is in for rough times,” he said.
“I do see that, in the fourth quarter, there will be a return to form.”
Sony has continually denied that a price cut is on the cards, though numerous industry big wigs have predicted that we’ll see one before the end of the year. Just don’t expect it to crop up at E3 this week.
