Anonymous denies involvement with PlayStation Network outages

In a post entitled "For Once We Didn’t Do It," hacker group Anonymous today denied involvement with the recent PlayStation Network outages.

"While it could be the case that other Anons have acted by themselves, AnonOps was not related to this incident and takes no responsibility for it," reads the statement. "A more likely explanation is that Sony is taking advantage of Anonymous’ previous ill-will towards the company to distract users from the fact the outage is actually an internal problem with the company’s servers."

The PlayStation Network began to experience technical issues in the U.S. on Wednesday night, and went down worldwide on Thursday. It currently remains inaccessible, greeting users who attempt to connect with the now-infamous ‘80710A06’ error code.

For its part, Sony yesterday stated that it was investigating the issue, and it could be "a full day or two" before PlayStation Network functionality returned.

We’ll continue to keep you updated on the situation as we hear more.
