Johan Pilestedt, CEO of Helldivers 2 developer Arrowhead Game Studios, has revealed in a post on the game’s Discord that he is hopeful the bug-blasting title will last for as long as possible, even if the studio has to eventually sunset the game.
Asked if players in regions where Helldivers 2 is not currently available for purchase (as a result of the controversy surrounding linking a PSN account) ever lose access to the game if they already own it, the Arrowhead boss said, “if you have bought the game — you will be able to play it forever.”

However, when quizzed if that really means ‘forever’ or until Helldivers 2’s servers were shuttered, he added that the game would remain online “forever if I get to choose.” Furthermore, if the game has to be sunset and Arrowhead moved on to something else “We would build automation on the gamester and other features.”
Helldivers 2 was released in February 2024 for PS5 and PC, and has sold over 12 million copies worldwide, becoming the fastest-selling PlayStation game of all time in the process.
