Assassin’s Creed 4 current-gen development was ‘nightmarish,’ says Ubisoft

Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag Game Director Ashraf has said that squeezing the most out of the current-generation version of the pirate-themed adventure was a “nightmarish’ experience.

Speaking during a Reddit AMA session, Ismail revealed that while work on the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions of the game went smoothly, the same can’t be said for the versions available for Sony and Microsoft’s current machines.

"Development on both [PS4 and Xbox One] was very smooth since they are both very similar to PCs. Last generation was very difficult and even nightmarish. Both Xbox One and PS4 were easy to deal with and the 1st parties were both there to help us out. The one gray area was understanding both Sony and MS requirements for the consoles. They were trying to figure them out themselves," he said.

Elsewhere, Ismail commented on Black Flag’s compatibility with PS4’s DualShock 4, stating, “The touchpad is used for scrolling through the map, adding waypoints, zooming etc. Overall it was super smooth to develop on [next-gen].”
