Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag sets sail for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 worldwide today, carrying with it a hefty weight of expectation among fans after last year’s divisive American Revolution adventure.
With this latest outing, Ubisoft has opted to take to the high seas for a pirate’s life of plundering and naval warfare, as we find ourselves in the well-worn boots of Edward Kenway, a former privateer living in the early 18th century. Unlike his predecessors, who fought for truth and justice, Kenway is just looking to fill his pockets with riches, and as such is ruthlessly unscrupulous by comparison.
Boasting a stunning Caribbean open world to explore, Black Flag is ripe with assassination contracts, hidden treasure, ancient temples, underwater caverns and heaps of loot to plunder as you battle rivals on board your trusty ship, the Jackdaw. Throw in a multiplayer on top, and you have yet another full-on Assassin’s Creed ready to compete for your hard-earned cash.
However, with Assassin’s Creed III leaving a bitter taste in some consumers’ mouths, can Edward Kenway’s nautical exploits in the Golden Age of Piracy redeem the series? The Internet has spoken out, and here’s the verdict. Stay tuned for PSU.com’s review of Black Flag later this week.
