Assassin’s Creed Chronicles publisher keen on more spin-offs

Ubisoft has confirmed that the forthcoming 2D action-adventure title, Assassin’s Creed Chronicles, will spark the beginning of a new series of spin-off titles in the multi-million selling stealth franchise.

Chronicles is due for release as part of the Season Pass for the upcoming Assassin’s Creed Unity, and takes the form of a side-scrolling title starring Chinese assassin, Shao Jun. The game is being developed by Climax Studios.

Speaking to Eurogamer, Ubisoft’s Alex Amancio indicated that we can expect more spin-off titles, each with a distinctive visual flavor.

"We really liked the side-scrolling idea, like Mark of the Ninja, and we thought it would be a really great way to explore some of the other universes we’ve created," he said.

"One thing that’s really cool is that every one of the chapters of this game will be in the art style representative of that era in time. This is why Shao Jun’s game is like Chinese ink – very black and red.

"Once we have other characters and timeframes the art style will completely change to match that specific character."

Assassin’s Creed Unit is due out in November for PlayStation 4, PC, and Xbox One. The series has seen a number of spin-off titles in the past, including Assassin’s Creed: Altair’s Chronicles and Assassin’s Creed II: Discovery, which expand on Altair and Ezio’s adventures, respectively.
