Assassin’s Creed Mirage is the latest release in the long-running franchise, this time without the long-running playtime in a much more condensed and focus story.
It was a return to form for the series to move away from the giant, open-world titles to something more like the first two AC titles, and fans have clearly responded well to it as according to Ubisoft, this is the publishers “biggest New Gen launch in terms of sales to date.”
“New Gen” meaning PS5 and Xbox Series console sales, but to put that in more perspective, Ubisoft also says that Mirage’s launch has been “in line” with Assassin’s Creed Origins and Assassin’s Creed Odyssey.
Notably though it’s not in line with Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, which is the biggest launch in the series overall, suggesting that Mirage didn’t quite out-do Valhalla.
“We could not have been happier that our back to the roots experience has been embraced by the community.” said Ubisoft in a statement on its Assassin’s Creed Twitter account.
That Mirage, an off-shoot of the main series, smaller, return-to-roots title was able to launch with the same strength as Origins and Odyssey is an impressive feat, all within just six days, even if it didn’t take the top spot from Valhalla.
It would be interesting to see Mirage begin a new line of Assassin’s Creed games, some being more focused like Mirage and others being the giant, open-world RPGs we’ve become used to.
