Assassin’s Creed Origins goes true open-world RPG as release date is confirmed

Ubisoft has officially unveiled the long-rumored Assassin’s Creed Origins, confirming the upcoming stealth-action title will indeed be set in ancient Egypt as previously reported.

The next chapter in the multi-million selling historical action-adventure franchise will be released for PlayStation 4, PC, and Xbox One on October 27, 2017. Origins focuses on the exploits of a Medjay known as Bayek, essentially an egyptian sheriff who protects villagers throughout his homeland from local and foreign threats.

As the name implies, the new Assassin’s Creed game will focus on the establishment of the series’ eponymous Brotherhood, although Ubisoft has made plenty of tweaks to the formula in order to give it a more open-world RPG feel this time around. There’s a new skill tree in place for starters allowing you to enhance your abilities, and missions can be directly affected by the living, breathing open-world. For example, one of your targets may be killed off by a roaming Crocodile before you even have a chance to get within striking distance, saving you the trouble.

Bayek also has a new method of scouting areas. Like we reported previously, gone are the ubiquitous towers of previous games; instead, you’ll now utilise your trusty eagle companion to spy for enemies and points of interest to plan your need move. In addition, combat has been overhauled, with foes now sporting hit boxes, with battles relying a lot more on player movement and counters. There’s also full-fledge boss fights to tackle too, so stealth isn’t always a viable option.

In typical Assassin’s Creed fashion, there’s four special editions of Origins up for grabs, which we’ve detailed below.
