Microsoft may have acquired Activision, but that apparently isn’t stopping Crash Bandicoot from making a cameo appearance in the upcoming Astro Bot game on PS5, its creative director has revealed.
Speaking on the PlayStation Blog, Nicolas Doucet revealed that the crate-bashing marsupial, alongside other characters with “cartoony” features such as Ape Escape’s apes, will feature in the game but will have masks on their heads.
Sometimes LED eyes just didn’t work on certain characters because the original design relies so much on the pupils being a certain size or color for instance. So for more cartoony VIPs like Crash Bandicoot or from Ape Escape, the Bots are wearing a mask to help bridge that problem.

Activision obviously owns the Crash Bandicoot IP, but with the publishing giant now under the Microsoft umbrella, it was believed the character’s inclusion may have been difficult to get the green light. Thankfully, that wasn’t an obstacle after all, so we can look forward to spotting the one-time PlayStation mascot in Astro Bot.
