Aussie PS3 sales top 850k

Sony Australia has revealed that the company has shifted over 850,000 PlayStation 3 consoles in the territory to date.

News comes following the launch of the Video Delivery Service in the region, with Sony’s Michael Ephraim adding that the firm is on track to surpass the one million sales mark by the end of the year.

On the flip side, however, sales of PSP Go remain somewhat underwhelming, with the handheld having sold only 20-25k in the region since its launch in October 2009. However, Sony has said it aims to stimulate sales by introducing a special console and ten free game downloads bundle at some point.

“The handheld space is very crowded and we have to keep in mind that [the PSP Go] was the first device of its kind to launch without packaged goods,” Ephraim told Gamespot.
