Avatar Frontiers Of Pandora PS5 Pro Update ‘Is Not Good,’ Says Digital Foundry

Digital Foundry has scrutinised the Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora PS5 Pro patch in its latest video and has come away less than impressed, with tests uncovering a number of issues with the game while running on Sony’s high-end console.

No, it is not good. And it follows the exact same kind of pattern we saw with another of other games that got PS5 Pro patches, where I wonder, like, after the patch was implemented, how many eyes looked at this subjectively and said ‘this is worth it.’The sort of flicking shadows, there’s something odd going on there, and obviously the foliage side of things, the shimmer on foliage, which seems to be a PSSR issue at this point.

The PS5 Pro update for Avatar Frontiers of Pandora was released only a few days ago, and features a new 60 FPS Quality Mode. You can see below for full details via the patch notes.

  • 60 FPS Quality Mode – The game will run at 60 FPS using Quality Mode on Playstation 5 Pro
  • Increased internal resolution – The increased hardware performance allows the game to reach both higher FPS and higher rendering resolution, resulting in increased resolution in certain scenarios.
  • PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR) – Integration of the new machine learning-based temporal upscaler PSSR, which uses the new ML-hardware of the PS5 Pro, bringing better quality and performance.
