Batman: Arkham City PS4 frame rate beats Xbox One version

Pixel wizards Digital Foundry have scrutinized the high-definition version of Batman: Arkham City for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, discovering just how well the Dark Knight’s celebrated open-world adventure performs on current-generation consoles.

Batman: Arkham City PS4 runs smoother than Xbox One version

According to the extensive report, both versions of Arkham City, which was originally released on the PS3 and Xbox 360 back in 2011, utilise dynamic resolution, though maintain the vertical axis at 1080p. The PS4 version is prone to dropping to as low as 1600×1080 depending on the scene.  In terms of frame rate, the PS4 release higher performance across the board, with both editions free of any caps in this respect.

Arkham City’s average frame rate performance clocks in at 30-35fps on PS4, with the Xbox One edition coming in lower. Digital Foundry also noted that the performance can reach as high as 60fps, but when dips do happen, it can fall to around 20fps.

Return to Arkham also features a modern update of Batman: Arkham Asylum, although we found this version to be the least impressive of the two games in terms of what has been overhauled.

Developer Rocksteady has confirmed that it is moving away from the Arkham franchise following the release of the PlayStation VR title, Batman Arkham, having completed the trilogy with last year’s Arkham Knight.
