Battlefield 2042 Voice Chat Absent At Launch, Could Arrive By ‘Day 25’

Battlefield 2042 Early Access is now available, but it’s missing one vital component that any online multiplayer game can’t really do without – voice chat. Yes, voice chat is currently not available in the Ripple Effect Studio-developed shooter, and it’s unknown when it will drop.

The Washington Post, which post a particularly harsh review on the first-person shooter, said that DICE Q&A revealed that players prefer to use standalone chat apps such as Discord for communication in games, but it was still looking to implement in-game that “shortly after launch.”

A DICE spokesperson told the publication that voice chat was “on the road map” and could arrive by “Day 25.”

Battlefield 2042 doesn’t have any form of campaign, instead focussing on huge multiplayer battles for up to 128 players on PS5, PC, and Xbox Series X/S (PS4 and Xbox One versions feature fewer players). As such, the lack of in-game voice chat is downright perplexing.
