And the winner is…

Though it faced some tough competition from the BlazBlue series, Dimps/Capcom’s Super Street Fighter IV won the hearts of fighting game aficionados in 2010. Ten fresh combatants, including Dee Jay and T. Hawk from Super Street Fighter II, join the 25 original characters in the expanded Street Fighter IV outing. Thankfully — or perhaps we should say finally — all fighters are unlocked from the start. Capcom also added a second ultra attack for both new and returning characters, as well as additional online modes and bonus stages. Most importantly, Super SFIV remains as balanced and fine-tuned as the original. None of the new content impairs the core gameplay in any way; rather, Super SFIV’s additions further improve what was already one of the best fighting games of the current generation.

And the Community Award goes to…

Super Street Fighter IV easily toppled its opponents in the community vote for Best Fighting Game of 2010 — Capcom’s expanded fighter garnered over half of all votes (52.5% of them, exactly). BlazBlue: Continuum Shift snagged itself a fourth of the pie, with precisely 25.0% of the votes. It’s portable cousin, BlazBlue: Calamity Trigger Portable, fared poorer with a measly 1.3% of the votes. In the 3D martial arts arena, THQ’s UFC Undisputed 2010 positively knocked out EA Sports MMA, with 18.8% of votes going to the former and a pitiable 2.5% to the latter.
