Bethesda: No next-gen consoles before 2014

Bethesda’s Todd Howard has stated his belief that Sony and Microsoft won’t roll out their next generation for another couple of years.

The Skyrim game director told PSM3 (via CVG) that he feels punters are happy enough with current machines, and as such reckons PlayStation 4 and Xbox 720 won’t show up before 2014.

"I think it’s going to be a while still, I really do. I think consumers are happy with the current ones, there’s a lot you can do with them," said Howard. "So I don’t think it’s coming next year or the year after."

Elsewhere, he also revealed that Bethesda would have considered making Skyrim a next-gen game if they couldn’t deliver the goods on current hardware.

"We want [Skyrim] to be fresh. We don’t want it to feel, visually or technically, ‘Oh this is Fallout 3’ or ‘this is Oblivion’ And if we couldn’t do that we would have waited," he commented.

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is due out on PlayStation 3, PC and Xbox 360 on November 11, 2011.
