Following news that Ubisoft has cancelled six games as part of a massive restructuring at the company, Insider Gaming has reported that Beyond Good & Evil 2 is still very much alive, despite the fact it was announced over 17-and-a-half years ago.
The project has undergone multiple revisions since then, and the current version of Beyond Good & Evil 2 has been in development since 2017, which is still a long time in the oven.
Beyond Good & Evil 2 has seen sporadic updates over the past five years or so, although we haven’t seen anything of the game in action for quite some time. Last November, it was revealed that Ubisoft was still hiring for the project, and in October 2024 it was revealed that Fawzi Mesmar had joined as creative director following the passing of Emile Morel in July the previous year.
Back in 2022, Beyond Good & Evil 2 surpassed Duke Nukem Forever as the game with the longest period of development for an AAA project at over 15 years. According to the few details we know of the sequel, Beyond Good & Evil 2 will take place in an open world and is set at least one generation prior to the events of the original game. In addition to the single-player campaign, it is believed co-op will also be supported.
