Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot has hinted that development of the much-requested Beyond Good & Evil 2 may still be ongoing despite recent reports to the contrary.
Quizzed by The Guardian if the sequel was still in development, Guillemot replied, “I can’t say the name, but there is a team working with Michel Ancel on a project that is… very interesting. It’s a game I’m sure you will like very much, and we can’t say more.
“There are some limits that we have to get rid of, because things have changed in the meantime, but there are elements we can keep. That’s why we don’t want to say anything until we are well advanced on the project. It’s too early to say.”
While not outright confirming that Beyond Good & Evil 2 is still in development, it certainly sounds likely, given that Michel Ancel is the creator of the much-loved 2003 original. A new IP is a possibility, but nothing is for certain at this point.
Beyond Good & Evil 2 was announced way back in 2008, although nothing ever materialized. During the PS3 era, it was suggested the sequel had been planned for next-generation consoles, so presumably we’ll see it on PlayStation 4 at some point.
