BioShock: Infinite ‘1999 mode’ unveiled

BioShock: Infinite will include a new game mode dubbed 1999, publisher 2K Games has announced.

1999 will differ from the standard experience in the fact it will provide a greater challenge for players, and promises “unforgiving” and “permanent consequences” as a result of the players’s in-game actions.

Levine feels the new mode will allow what he describes as ‘old-school players’ to “go back to our roots.”

“I’m an old school gamer. We wanted to make sure we were taking into account the play styles of gamers like me,” he commented.

“So we went straight to the horse’s mouth by asking them, on our website, a series of questions about how they play our games. 94.6 percent of respondents indicated that upgrade choices enhanced their BioShock gameplay experience; however, 56.8 percent indicated that being required to make permanent decisions about their character would have made the game even better.”

BioShock: Infinite is scheduled for release on PlayStation 3, PC and Xbox 360 in 2012.
