BlazBlue Studio nabs Double Dragon, River City Ransom rights

Those of us who have yearning for the fighting games of yesteryear could well be in for a treat, since BlazBlue developer Arc System Works today announced that it has purchased the rights to the entire catalogue of IP owned by Technos Japan Corp, the creators of the Double Dragon franchise.

Under the agreement and in addition to the Double Dragon franchise, Arc System Works can also create games in the River City Ransom and Super Dodge Ball series as well.

With the deal already in effect since June 1, no other details have been shared regarding the arrangement. However, a quick visit to the Arc System Works website shows that the Guilty Gear and BlazBlue developer is excited about reviving the “Kunio-Kun” series, which is the moniker that the River City Ransom and Super Dodge Ball games exist under in Japan.

Given Arc Systems Works penchant for marrying frenetic gameplay to hyper-detailed anime styled visuals, the prospect of the House That Guilty Gear Built creating new entries in these beloved franchises for PS4 is a compelling one to say the least.
