Silent Hill 2 Remake developer Bloober Team has poured cold water over speculation that the mysterious project it’s been teasing lately is a remake of Rule of Rose; in fact, it’s not a remake of any game, period.
The teaser for the new game featured a red rose, which was enough to get people worked up that it could be a Rule of Rose remake. After all, Bloober Team remake Silent Hill 2, and are also working on a Silent Hill remake, so why shouldn’t they have another project in the works based on an existing title? This is not the case, however, as Piotr Babieno, the CEO of Bloober Team, had the following to say on LinkedIn:
Nice guess, but no. It definitely doesn’t refer to any remake.
Developed by Punchline, Rule of Rose was released for the PS2 in 2006 and takes the form of a survival horror game that takes place in Britain in 1930. The game’s basic narrative follows Jennifer, a 19-year-old who is trapped in a world dominated by young girls who have established the Red Crayon Aristocrats, a form of social hierarchy. Rule of Rose was dogged by controversy in Europe prior to its release, fuelled by rumours of erotic themes and absence brutality, although the Video Standards Council labelled the complaints “nonsense.” Despite this, 505 Games cancelled the game’s released in the UK.
So, just what is Bloober Team working on? We’ll just have to wait and see.
