Sony Computer Entertainment Japan has announced further details on Bloodborne’s online features, confirming one-on-one PvP matches, three-player co-op and asynchronous multiplayer.
Via the official Bloodborne website (translation by Gematsu), we learn that three players can team up to defeat different bosses by entering instances. One host player will be able to use the ‘Hunter Calling Bell’ item to summon other hunters into their game, while those wishing to join games can use the ‘Resonant Bell item’. To ensure friends can play together, Bloodborne will incorporate a password system, with players able to jump into an instance only with others that use the same password.
Tombstones will show how other players have died, hopefully improving your chances of survival
In PvP, players will be able to use the ‘Ominous Resonant Bell’ to invade other games where they’ll battle it out against one other player. Thankfully, you can only be invaded while in areas with the ‘Bell Chiming Woman’. The winner of the battle will receive an award, so we’d expect there to be some fierce competition.
For both co-op and PvP modes, players will need to be PlayStation Plus subscribers.
In the same vein as the Dark Souls franchise, players can also leave messages for each other to help or hinder their progress via memoirs, while tombstones will replay the deaths of those who have fallen in the game world, which should help you avoid the same mistakes.
So, it sounds like Bloodborne is shaping up to be exactly what you’d expect from the developer of the Demon’s Souls and Dark Souls series, though the introduction of Chalice Dungeons should add a new dimension.
Chalice Dungeons can be shared with other players
Chalice Dungeons are procedurally-generated (the structure of the dungeons change) and can be shared online with other players. That should mean vast replay value for those adventurers skilful enough to complete the game. Knowing From Software and their previous work though, that’s definitely not going to be easy.
Earlier this week, new Bloodborne screenshots were revealed, as well as confirmation that the game will require a minimum of 41GB free space on your PS4 HDD.
Bloodborne is due for release exclusively on PS4 on March 27, 2015.
