Courtesy of GameInformer, some pertinent information regarding how your existing headsets will work on PlayStation 4 has surfaced today.
As it stands, various brands of headsets won’t be compatible (or at the very least offer chat) until a system update is made available subsequent to the PlayStation 4’s launch this November. This unfortunately includes Sony’s own PULSE headset and all Astro-branded devices which rely on USB connectivity.
Said headsets will provide game audio as well as eventual party chat post launch, though these features won’t be available to Bluetooth headset owners. As well, Bluetooth headsets unfortunately won’t be compatible with PS4 at all. It was suspected that compatibility would be afforded to all existing headsets next-gen as we reported in July, so this news will be disappointing for some, especially those who invested in expensive Bluetooth headsets.
There’s also no word on when the aforementioned update will arrive post-launch, though we hope it will be sooner rather than later.
