Bodycount pushed back to "early summer" 2011

According to a report on Eurogamer, Codemasters has pushed back the release of its hotly anticipated console shooter Bodycount following the departure of Codemasters Guildford general manager Adrian Bolton this week.

The game will now hit shelves in early summer 2011 having previously been pencilled in for release next spring.

Bolton’s exit follows hot on the heels of Stuart Black, the former creative director for Bodycount, who jumped ship back in July 2010.

Speaking in light of Bolton’s departure, Rod Cousens, CEO of Codemasters, commented, "The remit within Codemasters is not to compromise the quality of any content we publish. We’re not prepared to compromise the game.”

"In common with other software publishers, has that resulted in delays? It’s absolutely resulted in some delays.”

"People have a habit of reading into it, and two plus two becomes five, but we plan to publish the game in early summer next year and we’re not being any more specific than that because we’re not prepared to compromise on the quality."

He further added: "Someone will fill the void. I don’t see it as any threat to either the well-being of the product, the well-being of the studio or the well-being of the company. I don’t think it’s life threatening."

Bodycount utilizes Codemasters’ UGO engine and revolves around dispatching legions of foes known as “Targets” on behalf of an entity known only as the “Network.” Online multiplayer and co-op will also feature in the shooter, which has been dubbed as a spiritual successor to Black.
