Borderlands 2 has sold around 12 million copies to date, Gearbox head honcho, Randy Pitchford, confirmed during a chinwag with Major Nelson.
The action-RPG sequel was released for PS3 and Xbox 360 in 2012, and was praised by critics and gamers alike. The title later launched for PlayStation Vita in 2014, though didn’t have quite the same impact on a handheld.
Pitchford said the sales figures came to his attention via an earnings call with publisher 2K, though wasn’t aware of the exact amount of copies the game has sold.
Last we heard, Borderlands 2 had sold-in 10 million units to retailers worldwide as of August 2014.
The game has been remastered as part of the Borderlands: The Handsome Collection for PS4 and Xbox One, which hits stores this week.
During the same chat, Pitchford admitted he’d like to see a re-release of the original Borderlands for current-gen machines.
