UPDATE – It’s real – Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons is indeed being remade for PlayStation 5 and will release on February 28, 2024. Boasting a fully overhauled visual presentation, the game which started everything for It Takes Two creator Josef Fares can be seen in the new trailer released at The Game Awards 2024 below. You can also catch a full synopsis of this Unreal Engine 5 powered remake below, too.
Endorsed by Josef Fares, the creative visionary behind the original game, Brothers: A Tale Of Two Sons Remake faithfully re-tells the remarkable heart-rending journey of brothers Naia and Naiee as they embark on a quest to save the life of their dying father. Built on the Unreal Engine 5, every step of the brothers’ journey has been painstakingly rebuilt from the ground up for the most immersive story possible, whilst remaining faithful to the original game. As an additional bonus, the classic single-player experience is now also joined by local co-op, allowing friends to each control a brother’s actions.
“It is a privilege to see new life coming into Brothers” said Josef Fares, creator of the original game, “Avantgarden have done a great job to bring this story back for a new generation to experience.”
Winning several prestigious accolades including a BAFTA for Game Innovation, Downloadable Game of the Year Awards at the D.I.C.E and Academy of Interactive Arts & Sciences, and Best Xbox Game at the VGAs, Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons has been heralded by many as one of the most influential games of the past decade.
According to reliable tipster billbil-kun on Twitter, Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons is getting a remake, and what’s more, we’ll get a formal announcement soo — perhaps as The Game Awards this week.
There’s not much to go on right now, although the post reveals that 505 Games is the publisher; there’s currently no release date available, so we’ll just have to wait and see how things pan out.
Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons was developed by Starbreeze Studios and released for PS3, PC, and Xbox 360 back in 2013, with PS4 and Xbox One versions arriving in September 2015. The game later arrived for Nintendo Switch and Amazon Luna in May 2019 and October 2020, respectively.
