GameStop is currently offering PlayStation TV free for gamers who buy a PS4 and a 12-month PS Plus subscription. The bundle also comes with a copy of The Last Of Us: Remastered. GameInformer reports that Best Buy may also follow suit shortly.
Named the PlayStation Vita TV in Japan, the microconsole is a compact, affordable way to enter the world of PlayStation, with the ability to play many Vita, PSP, and PS One games. The PS TV also is able to do PS4 Remote Play and streaming PS3 games via PlayStation Now cloud gaming service. PS3 and PS4 controllers are compatible with the device.
The PS TV hasn’t taken off well since it’s Western debut last fall due to a variety of reasons. Unfortunately, it does not have full support with all Vita titles so be sure to check the compatibility list. Likewise, a lot of Vita apps aren’t compatible with the device, including Netflix. The device’s display output is maxed at 720p and you will still need one of the Vita’s pricey memory cards.
But if you’ve been wanting to play some of the best Vita has to offer (Persona 4 Golden, Killzone: Mercenary, Muramasa Rebirth, and the Danganronpa games) or for Vita owners wanting to play the games on your HDTV, then the PlayStation TV at $39.99 may be a good price for you.
