Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare dev is ‘f***ing stoked’ for its new game

Sledgehammer Games’ Glen Schofield has confirmed that work on the studio’s next Call of Duty game has already started, with the developer stating it has ‘listened’ to fans following the release of Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare in 2014.

Speaking on Twitter, Schofield made it clear he’s excited about what’s to come from Sledgehammer’s next project, though made it clear we won’t hear any info for quite a while yet.

We’re designing a new game so in design mode I do art. That’s how I think. Probably weird but it’s my way of concentrating. Can’t talk about the game but we listened and I am so f*%#=ing stoked about this one.”

The Call of Duty franchise is now on a three-studio rotation, with Sledgehammer Games, Infinity Ward, and Treyarch all working on the multi-million selling shooter series. Each company takes the reins on Call of Duty for a specific year before knuckling down for the next three years on its next instalment in the series, which means each new game benefits from a third-year development cycle—something which wasn’t the case just a few years ago. This year was the turn of Treyarch with Call of Duty: Black Ops 3, which means Infinity Ward is next up in 2016; Sledgehammer Games won’t release its new game until 2017.

What we don’t know however is what game will come next. Infinity Ward’s last title was Call of Duty: Ghosts, which didn’t exactly receive overwhelmingly positive reviews from critics upon its release in 2013. Could a sequel be on the cards, or is there a chance the studio could revisit the critically acclaimed Modern Warfare series? After all, we haven’t seen the series since 2011. As for Sledgehammer, a follow-up to Advanced Warfare seems logical at this point, and could very well take over from the Modern Warfare series.
