Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare named 2014’s biggest entertainment launch

Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare has become the biggest entertainment launch of 2014, Activision has announced.

This puts the military shooter’s revenue higher than any other media property released this year, including movies, music, books, and videogames.

Call of Duty as a series has generated a massive $10 billion worldwide in sales since its inception in 2003. Impressively, the figure puts it ahead of box office smashes including The Hunger Games, Transformers, Iron Man, and The Avengers combined.

Furthermore, Activision internal estimates have found that Advanced Warfare is also the highest-selling digital launch of all time across PlayStation Network and Xbox LIVE.

370 million online matches were played by gamers in the title’s first week of release, levelling up over 200 million times in multiplayer.

Finally, while sales figures were not divulged, Activision did confirm that “sales and engagement are up through the first week compared to last year,” with Season Pass sales also increasing.
