Analyst firm Cowen & Company has predicted a Call of Duty Black Ops 4 release for 2018.
Call of Duty Black Ops 4 in development?
Presumably this will mean that we’ll be returning to a near-futuristic setting for the next chapter in the popular first-person shooter franchise. The previous entry, Call of Duty: Black Ops 3, was set in the year 2065.
If so, then this ties in with previous reports that Call of Duty 2018 will return to a modern setting despite this year’s outing, Call of Duty WW2, turning back the clocks to the 1940s.
Elsewhere, Cowen & Company predicted that Call of Duty WW2 will comfortably outperform Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare in terms of sales. They’re not the only ones either, as Wedbush Morgan’s Michael Pachter reckons WW2 will be the best-selling instalment in the series to date.
Right now there’s no official confirmation on Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 from publisher Activision, so take this with a pinch of salt. However, given the success of the Black Ops series, we wouldn’t be at all surprised if it was set to continue.
One thing is for sure is that the game will be handled by Treyarch, who has developed all Black Ops titles. Call of Duty rotates between three major developers nearly: Infinity Ward, Sledgehammer Games, and Treyarch.
With Infinity Ward having worked on last year’s Infinite Warfare and Sledgehammer beavering away on WW2, Treyarch is next in line to take the reins for the new Call of Duty game.
Call of Duty WW2 is scheduled for release on PlayStation 4, PC, and Xbox One on November 3, 2017.
