Retail giant GameStop has confirmed that the hotly-anticipated Call of Duty: Ghosts has set its sights firmly on becoming the ‘most pre-ordered title of the year.’
This is despite claims from publisher Activision that the military shooter’s pre-orders are below that of Call of Duty: Black Ops 2’s record-smashing figures last year.
A press release by Bob Puzon, GameStop’s senior VP of merchandising, reads:
“Call of Duty is an entertainment juggernaut and cultural phenomenon. We are excited for the upcoming release of the new instalment of this blockbuster franchise. We look forward to celebrating the worldwide November launch of this great game that is on track to be the most pre-ordered title of the year.”

It’s worth pointing out that Puzon did not clarify if the pre-order claims made by GameStop account for those placed within 2013 or for games due out this year. Indeed, one might expect Grand Theft Aut V to steal the crown for the most pre-ordered title of 2013.
Activision said earlier year that the transition to next-generation systems has resulted in a slower uptake of the latest Call of Duty.
Call of Duty: Ghosts is due out on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, Xbox One, Xbox 360 and Wii U this November.
This latest entry in the multi-million dollar selling franchise breaks away from Infinity Ward’s Modern Warfare series, featuring a whole new storyline and gameplay features. As such, Ghosts takes place in the near future, where a series of events that altered the global superpower balance, reducing the U.S. to a severely weakened state.
