Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 is this year’s Call of Duty, first details leak — rumor

The first alleged details on this year’s upcoming installment in the Call of Duty franchise have leaked via an anonymous tipster speaking to website OnlySP.com.

According to the report (and we stress that you should take this strictly as a rumor for now), Sledgehammer Games is working on a full-fledged sequel to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 for release this year.

Taking place in the year 2018, Modern Warfare 4 is set to reunite players with Captain Price and Nikolai, who will be pushed into the spotlight as the two lead characters. The tipster notes that the SAS will form a major role in the storyline.

Nikolai will be playable in the game and will have a speaking role, something which isn’t typically associated with protagonists in the Modern Warfare series, who are usually silent heroes.

Perhaps the most eyebrow-raising tidbit is the presence of Shadow Company, who return under the leadership of General Shepherd, who was presumed dead at the conclusion of Modern Warfare 2. Having apparently escaped to Europe following that game’s ending, Shepherd will return to the limelight as Modern Warfare 4’s central antagonist.

We’re a bit incredulous at this piece of info, considering the fact Shepherd took a knife to the eye at the end of MW2, and was also confirmed as being buried in Arlington Cemetery via Modern Warfare 3’s promotional Time Magazine.

Elsewhere, the source stated that a stealth-based mission will take place in Amsterdam, with Shanghai also set to feature in the sequel.

Activision recently confirmed that Sledgehammer Games had joined the ranks of Call of Duty’s development squad, who rotate between Infinity Ward and Treyarch every year. More importantly, this gives each new game in the series considerably more time in the oven than previous iterations.

What do you make of this info? Would you like to see Captain Price return in another Modern Warfare game? Sound off in the comments section below.
