Infinity Ward has detailed the multiplayer component in the recently-announced Call of Duty Modern Warfare 4, revealing it will launch with 12 core maps and provide the most ‘authentic’ gunplay from the franchise to date.
This is all thanks to a new weapon-first technology stack that unifies precision aiming, physical handling, realistic audio propagation, enhanced visibility, and smarter combat perception. The studio is promising no bloom or guesswork, with key areas such as bullet trajectory, weapon motion, Operator stance, camera, audio, FOV, and target visibility combining to provide a “highly tuned combat fidelity system.”
In regards to maps, Infinity Ward is promising “visually distinct environments” that span multiple locations across the globe, with the 12 core release maps featuring custom infil and clear visual identity. Meanwhile, Kill Block offers a live-fire training facility for elite operators that promises a “fresh gameplay experience” with each new round. The Multiplayer offering also implements dedicated Gunfight maps and various Big War maps that are designed with large-scale vehicles and infantry combat across areas that are shaped by the conflict in the campaign.
Infinity Ward says that the maps have been designed to maintain a freshness to combat while offering tactical and competitive gameplay, as well as offering players multiple routes and opportunities to adapt for each engagement.
Call of Duty Modern Warfare 4 is pencilled in for release on PS5, PC, Nintendo Switch 2, and Xbox Series X/S on October 23, 2026. The main campaign focuses on a conflict between North Korea and South Korea, with series veteran Captain Price returning to the battlezone alongside new characters such as a young Korean soldier, Private Park.
