Activision has unleashed some eyeball-popping stats for its mega-selling Call of Duty franchise.
For starters, the publishing powerhouse revealed that 100 million gamers have played the series since the paradigm-shifting Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare back in 2007. It doesn’t, however, specify whether these figures are related to regular buyers who fork out cash each year, or unique users.
Regardless, Activision noted that the figure represents a total of 2.85 million years worth of play time – longer than the human race has been in existence – and fired a staggering 32.3 quadrillion shots.
Call of Duty was launched in 2003 and was originally an historical first-person shooter, with first three games set in World War II. Starting with Modern Warfare however, the series shifted into a contemporary setting, and has since dabbled in the Cold War (Black Ops) and near-futuristic setting (Black Ops II).
