The co-founder of Sledgehammer Games has revealed that the upcoming Call of Duty WW2 will eschew the unlimited sprint mechanic found in previous games.
Michael Condrey confirmed the news during a dialogue with fans on Twitter, where he was quizzed if the feature would make a return in the upcoming World War II-based shooter. His response was succinct to say the least, with a simple “nope” putting that particular query to bed.
This decision shouldn’t come as much of a surprise however, considering the past few Call of Duty games have been set in a futuristic setting where players are given advanced maneuvering capabilities. Call of Duty World War 2 is attempting to bring the series back to its roots, and part of that development philosophy goes beyond the obvious change in setting; the latest entry will also not include regenerating health, a feature that has long become a staple of the first-person shooter genre.
Call of Duty WW2 is scheduled for release on November 3, 2017 for PlayStation 4, PC, and Xbox One. The action takes place during the latter stages of the Second World War, specifically during the years 1944-1945, with the story focusing on a group of soldiers in the U.S. 1st Infantry Division as they battle across Europe. In addition to the main campaign, CoD WW2 will also feature a series of linked skirmishes known as War Mode, plus the usual multiplayer suite that includes the new player-heavy Headquarters feature.
As part of Sony’s ongoing timed-exclusivity deal with Call of Duty publisher Activision, all DLC released for the game will be made available for the PS4 30 days before any other format. Watch the Call of Duty WW2 trailer and stay tuned to PSU for more coverage.
