Europol is reporting that the organisation responsible for hacking Capcom back in 2020 has been “taken down” in an International police operation, with a number of key members in the group having now been taken into custody.
Ragnar Locker “made a name for itself by attacking critical infrastructure across the world, having most recently claimed the attacks against the Portuguese national carrier and a hospital in Israel.” In November 2020, the ransomware group targeted Resident Evil published Capcom, resulting in names and addresses of customer and former employees being stolen from its servers.
It’s now emerged that the group’s “key target” has been apprehended in Paris, with the individual’s Czechia home searched and five other suspects interviewed in Spain and Latvia. In addition, authorities also took down Ragnar Locker’s Netherlands, Germany, and Sweden-based ransomware infrastructure, with its data leak website also being removed.
