CERO Dead Space Remake EA Japan News PS5 Stellar Blade

CERO Criticised By EA Japan For Passing Stellar Blade But Banning Dead Space Remake

EA Japan’s general manager has criticised CERO (Computer Entertainment Rating Organisation) for granting Stellar Blade a release in Japan but banning Dead Space.

Shift Up’s upcoming PS5 title was given a CERO D rating, which means that under 17s cannot purchase the game without parental consent. However, Dead Space Remake was refused a rating, which means that it was effectively banned from release in Japan on consoles.

Shaun Noguchi took to Twitter and argued that the gore seen in EA Motive’s survival horror title is similar to that of Stellar Blade. “What do you mean, CERO,” he wrote, noting that he thought Stellar Blade’s demo was “a lot of fun” and “full of action.”

CERO, you said that our Dead Space was no good because the cross-section of damaged parts and internal organs were visible. But here you can see both the cross-sections and insides, so I’m not convinced you are using CERO D.

Just to add something to avoid any misunderstanding, I have no ill will towards Stellar Blade itself. It was fun and I recommend you should buy it. This is purely a complaint about the ambiguity of the review process in Japan, and I can give many examples of the ambiguity that is prevalent in the review process for other titles as well.

Dead Space launched in January 2023 for PS5, PC, and Xbox Series X/S, with Stellar Blade due out on April 26, 2024 for PS5.
