With the announcement last week that Activision had planned to bring the recent Modern Warfare shooter back to the World War II setting, a lot of gamers were nothing short of disappointed. While the guys over at Activision and Treyarch understand the position of some gamers, they feel they can change the minds of plenty with a genre defining installment into the franchise itself.
MCV had the chance to talk to senior producer, Noah Heller, and he had this to say about the upcoming title.
"Modern Warfare opened the door to so many people new to Call of Duty. The game built great fertile ground for us to start on and if we’re going to say: ‘Look it’s Christmas, here’s another Call of Duty as you loved it last year,’ then we need to make sure the game is high quality or people won’t trust what Call of Duty is."
Heller obviously understands the importance of building on the last installment’s success and added in that "this [COD5] has to be the best shooter and has to redefine the World War II genre."
From the way it sounds, it looks like we can expect a new Call of Duty title every year by Christmas. Whether this will potentially hurt the franchise or not like it has so many other yearly releases will be discovered over time.
