Concord Dev Issues Thanks For Outcry Of Support On Social Media: ‘You Are The Reason We Make Games’

Firewalk Studios, the studio behind the ill-fated Concord, has expressed its gratitude on social media following an outburst of support from folk in wake of the announcement that the hero shooter would be going offline this week.

Concord launched on August 23 for PS5 and PC but was met with tepid reviews and a low player count, and things weren’t helped much by the fact it was arriving as a full priced game in a crowded genre. Sony announced yesterday that it was pulling the game offline while it figures out what to do next, and issuing refunds for anyone who has purchased the game. Will it ever return? Who knows at this point.

While there are obviously the trolls who were quick to dance over Concord’s grave, many people expressed their support for Firewall Studios. An example is Daryl Nelson of Bungie and Blizzard, who posted the following on X:

There are going to be a lot of Takes (TM) today but wanted to say this: Launching a game is so fucking hard, and a bunch of incredible talent worked to bring this game to us. Firewalk didn’t deserve this and I hope that the team can recover and regroup from this.

Meanwhile, Josh Scherr, a writer who worked on Uncharted and The Last of Us, offered:

Don’t want to retweet any clickbait or attract trolls, so I’ll just say my heart goes out to everyone at Firewalk Studios regarding today’s news. Fuck.

There’s many other people who wrote similar messages, and in response, Josh Hamrick, Concord’s design director, had the following to say:

For all of you reaching out with love, you are the reason we make games. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. Now I’m gonna go win this Area Control match.
