Crytek’s Nathan Camarillo has revealed that celebrated sci-fi shooter series Crysis will be sticking around for the foreseeable future, with the company aiming to grow the IP in to a “very long-running franchise.”
Speaking during a chinwag with the folks at Eurogamer, Camarillo, who is serving as Crysis 2’s executive producer, commented, “It’s in our best interest to grow Crysis into a very long-running franchise. Maybe that means Crysis 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 … Crysis Infinity.”
“It’s the start of a new future for Crysis. We’re taking it very seriously,” he added. “That’s all I can really say about it. We wouldn’t put this much effort into it if this were where it was ending. That doesn’t make sense.”
It’s worth remembering this isn’t the first time Crytek has expressed interest in expanding the franchise beyond the series’ hotly anticipated second instalment, with the firm stating earlier this year that it’s aiming to release more sequels later down the line.
Crysis 2 will be released for PlayStation 3, PC and Xbox 360 platforms in early 2011.
