Crytek, the studio behind Crisis and Far Cry, is fast at work developing for all three current-gen consoles. While development was announced for the Wii today, Crytek also revealed some extremely interesting tidbits about their work with the PlayStation 3.
Cevat Yerli, Crytek’s head honcho, explained to a small audience that their commitment to the PS3 is far greater than the industry realizes. He stated, "Our PS3 development is going deeper than many people assume right now…[and] the PS3 room is separate because we have some secret technologies being developed there which are not related to CryEngine 2." Hold on one second, some studios are actually looking for potential rather than a cop out? It’s amazing to see the support of all three consoles as well as exclusive focus on the PS3.
In closing, after commenting about a potential departure from first-person shooters, Yerli stated, "For that, we’re optimising technology, but for another reason, the future in general, there is a dedicated PS3 team." Great news from a popular studio and even more so for the future of the PS3.
Stay tuned to PSU for more information on the "secret technologies" and releases from Crytek.
