Crytek discusses a multiplatform future

German-based studio Crytek has recently discussed the disadvantages that creating a PC exclusive can bring. Outside of the much smaller userbase (those who can run Crysis), they have had to deal with creating one of the most pirated games in history.

Cevat Yerli, President of Crytek, had this to say, “It is certain. We are suffering currently from the huge piracy that is encompassing Crysis. We seem to lead the charts in piracy by a large margin, a chart leading that is not desirable. I believe that’s the core problem of PC Gaming, piracy. The degree that PC Gamers pirate games inherently destroys the platform. Similar games on consoles sell factors of 4 to 5 more. It was a big lesson for us and I believe we won’t have PC exclusives as we did with Crysis in future. We are going to support PC, but not exclusively anymore.”

With all of the rumors always pointing to a PlayStation 3 port of Crysis, it’s good to know that we can at least look forward to the future titles from the studio. This could also explain why Crytek was looking for developers and designers for the PlayStation 3.
