Cyberpunk 2077 is still and likely will forever be reeling from the terrible launch it had last year, though CD Projekt RED claims that their plans to finally release PS5 versions for both Cyberpunk 2077 and The Witcher 3 are in fact “on track” to hit their target release windows.
The Polish developer discussed the news earlier today while reporting their quarterly financial earnings. They also re-affirmed that the expansion for Cyberpunk 2077 is still in development, a new large update is on it’s way and the Cyberpunk 2077 team is being expanded.
On top of that, they’ve begun preliminary or exploratory work on new projects as well.
This, from any other developer talking about a PS5 version of their game, would sound promising. Coming from CD Projekt RED however, history tells us to hold on a minute.
It’s good to hear that CDPR considers both upgrades to be on track, with Cyberpunk 2077 set to come to PS5 by Q1 2022, and The Witcher 3 to arrive Q2 2022. Whether they hit those dates however, we’ll have to wait and see.
Recently, CDPR’s president Adam Kicinski said he belives Cyberpunk 2077 will be regarded as a good game in the long run. While that could be true, it still remains to be seen if Cyberpunk 2077 will ever be able to wash the stain that it’s president and other high level executives dirtied it with.
The fact still remains they lied about it’s launch state and sold a broken product knowingly. Not that they’re the only ones who have ever done that, they’re just the only ones who did it so egregiously.
Especially considering how previously they sought fit to stand on a high horse above other developers at times, judging them for the same crimes CDPR has since committed themselves.
This all only happened last year however, so it’s still too close to really call it. However, time will indeed tell how Cyberpunk 2077 is regarded, but more importantly, how CD Projekt RED is regarded.
