Dan Houser, the Co-Founder and Creative Vice President of Rockstar Games, has said that he hopes the upcoming Grand Theft Auto IV will have as much of an impact on players as its predecessor, Grand Theft Auto III.
Speaking with variety, Houser commented, "What we wanted was the feeling when you saw GTA III after GTA II.”
"The feeling when [you] see IV compared to III, hopefully it’s not difficult to see differences."
He also commented that, while the company is not set against the idea of taking the series into other forms of media, the firm strongly believes that the GTA brand is better in its current videogame incarnation.
“The intellectual property is the main asset in the company,” he said. “That’s why ‘GTA’ is still relevant ten years later. We haven’t put one out every year. We haven’t fleeced it. And we haven’t put it on 50 different formats.”
"We’re not per se against moving properties between different media but for GTA it just seems so perfect as a game. You lose a lot of what makes it what it is if you move it into being, say, a movie. It just never seemed interesting creatively."
Grand Theft Auto IV is due out worldwide on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 on April 29.
