Dark Souls II video shows real-life armour inspired by the game

Dark Souls II publisher Namco Bandai has revealed that a real-world master blacksmith was called upon to create a suit of promotional armour for the upcoming RPG.

Namco Bandai enlisted the help of Armedia, a Swiss-based armour specialist noted for providing similar designs for use in film, TV, and special events.

A behind-the-scenes video of the armour suit construction details the time and skill involved, with the helm alone taking six weeks to build. The video also reveals the real-life replica weighs 20 kilograms in total.

It appears Namco Bandai and developer From Software is intent on selling the harsh, medieval feel of Dark Souls II’s world through its game design both in and out of the studio. Recently, fans were able to contribute to this process by submitting their own shield designs.

Dark Souls II releases on March 14, 2014 for PlayStation 3.
