Dark Souls III’s first DLC is coming in fall 2016, and we’ll surely die all over again

Bandai Namco Games has announced that the first slice of downloadable content for Dark Souls III will be released in fall 2016.

That’s about all the publishing giant would say on the matter, although considering developer From Software’s past efforts with post-launch content for the Souls series, it should be something worth keeping an eye on.

Dark Souls III was released for PlayStation 4, PC and Xbox One worldwide earlier this week. The game continues the winning formula and notorious difficulty of its predecessors, although also channels Bloodborne by introducing fast-paced combat to spice things up a bit.

The Souls franchise initially started out with the PS3-exclusive Demon’s Souls back in 2009, which garnered a cult following and critical acclaim. However, it wasn’t until the arrival of Dark Souls in 2011 that the series enjoyed proper mainstream success, which was further cemented with 2014’s Dark Souls 2.

Creator Hidetaka Miyazaki also headed up the PS4-exclusive Bloodborne in 2015, although has recently suggested that the Souls series won’t be getting anymore sequels. To date, the franchise has sold over eight million copies worldwide.
