Death Comes Full Circle? Death Resurrected? Death Lives On? Outlive The Apocalypse? Darksiders 2: High Deathinition Edition?…The metaphors could go on forever, but if death can return to the living in a brand new pretty pixels edition, then it’s fair to say this isn’t the last we’ll be seeing of the HD remasters. Or is it?
Amazon has posted the box art for Darksiders 2’s upcoming HD re-release; Darksiders 2: Deathinitive Edition. Pre-orders are already available and the game’s set to release on December 31, 2015. This is most likely a placeholder, although expect a firm date to be announced soon.
Given the game’s release date and the current generation of consoles now becoming the norm, thanks to developers and publishers dropping development on the last-generation systems as hinted by the latest AAA releases, it’s almost symbolic in a way.
Darksiders 2 receiving the HD treatment almost feels like a going away present. Will the death of the HD remasters end with death itself? Or is this a hint to a third game in the series?
Despite the hypocrisy of consumers being against HD remasters—at least, for the most part—it’s only when we see a game that we would personally like to experience again that it seems acceptable. Given the trend of HD remasters it does seem strange as to why Nordic Games didn’t re-release both Darksiders 1 and Darksiders 2 as a package.
